Bringing Older Slabs Back Into Use
Epoxy flooring in Indiahoma often starts with a house or building that needs work. Indiahoma is a small town just south of US Route 62, about 24.4 driving miles west of Lawton. The 2020 Census counted 275 residents and 162 housing units. Nearly 3 in 10 of those units, 29.6%, were vacant. When a house sits empty, its garage floor usually collects stains, cracks and loose paint. Someone who buys or reopens that house wants the floor cleaned up and sealed.
Repair comes before the coating
A coating only lasts as long as the concrete under it. On a slab that has been neglected, we plan more time for repair than we would on a newer floor. Here is the order we follow: 1. Walk the floor and mark every crack, pit and stain. 2. Grind the whole surface to remove old paint, sealers and the weak top layer. 3. Rout out cracks and fill them with a repair material made for concrete. 4. Patch spalled areas and chipped edges near the garage door. 5. Check that the repairs are flush with the floor before coating.
Only then do we apply the base coat. If a slab has a crack that keeps moving, or a section that has dropped badly, we will say so and price the Concrete Crack & Floor Repair work on its own line.
Fixing up a house in town
People buy older houses in small towns for many reasons: lower prices, room to spread out, family nearby. In Indiahoma, the rental vacancy rate was 35.7% in 2020, and the homeowner vacancy rate was 3.8%. Owners getting a long-empty rental ready for tenants are some of the people we hear from most. A coated garage and a clean front porch make a house show better to a renter or buyer, and they are easier to keep clean afterward.
Choosing a system for an older floor
- Garage Floor Coating: a full base, color and topcoat system for a garage that has been repaired
- Epoxy Flake Floors: chips broadcast across the floor hide patched cracks and uneven color in old concrete
- Polyaspartic Floor Coating: a fast-curing option when you need the garage back quickly during a remodel
- Patio & Pool Deck Coatings: for front porches and back patios that have faded or pitted
- Commercial & Shop Floor Epoxy: for a detached shop or a building being put back into use
- Concrete Crack & Floor Repair: on its own if you only want the slab made sound
Flake floors are a common pick on older slabs because the pattern hides small differences between patched and original concrete. A solid color can show those repairs through the coating.
The Job Corps campus
Indiahoma was also home to the Treasure Lake Job Corps, which closed on February 28, 2015. Larger buildings that change hands often have floors that need the same repair-first approach, on a bigger scale. If you are working on a commercial or shop building in the area, we can quote shop-grade epoxy after looking at the floor in person.
What the estimate covers
On an older Indiahoma floor, the written quote breaks out each step: grinding, crack filling, patching, base coat, flake or color, and topcoat. You can see how much of the price is repair and how much is the finish. If you want to stage the work, we can do the repair now and the coating later. That way the slab is sound even if the budget for the finish comes after the rest of the house is done.

Indiahoma Questions
The house I bought in Indiahoma sat empty for years. Can the garage floor be saved?
Usually. Most neglected slabs need grinding, crack filling and some patching before coating. We look at the floor first and tell you what it needs. If the concrete is too far gone, we will say so before you spend money on a finish.
Why do you suggest flake for older floors?
Old concrete often has patches, stains and color changes that show through a solid coat. A full broadcast of flake chips covers those differences and gives the floor an even look.
